Service Learning Opportunity!!
Students have an opportunity to earn
2 hours per video shot and 3 hours per video edited. The 2-4 minute video needs to be a "career video" aimed at 7-9th graders. It should showcase an adult in a career with LOTS of b-roll and answer all of these questions:

  • What is the job?
  • What are the daily duties?
  • What training / education does one need to get that job?
  • What do they like most about the job?

Videos must be completed by the end of April for service learning credit.

The benefit? For every useable video created, the Digital Video Arts class will receive approximately $200 in grant $ for equipment.

We ask for a $15 lab fee from those who can afford it which will be used to purchase batteries, recording media, and classroom supplies. You may alternately choose to provide your own SD card (for advanced students), mini DV tapes (for beginning students), blank DVDs, headphones, AAA and 9v batteries, paper. Checks payable to "Mission Valley ROP"

Students so far this fall have returned $367 in equipment in an unuseable (broken) condition, not including stolen items. Every lab fee paid helps! (collected this fall: $180 in fees)

SD Cards Missing!
Illness
There are no less than 3 SD cards missing so far this fall semester. The replacement cost for these cards is $37 each. Students are now asked to provide their own SD cards, or offer collateral valued at $10 or more in exchange for use of an SD card; the item returned when the SD card is.

Do NOT send students to school with a fever.

Students who have had a fever should not be attending school until at least 24 hours after the fever has broken (without the use of medication).

Newark students, please call or e-mail your absence reasons.

Students attending class with a fever will be removed. Not everyone has a strong immune system and it's just not fair to expect it.

E-mail bounce back?

Try typing "NOT SPAM" in the subject line, followed of course by your student's name. I can still get bounced e-mails.... but it takes 2-5 days.

Lost Your Homework Assignment?
Will YouTube make me rich?
It's here... Choose DVA1 or DVA2 above and navigate to "assignments". Not unless you developed the program and sold it to Google. Start by entering your videos in a few festivals. YouTube can get you seen however, and that can lead to money. Or not.

Still confused about this class is about? Check out this award winning commercial and a trailer for an award winning documentary. Both videos were made by advanced video students.
